A public awareness programme on “Space Technology for the benefit of human beings” was conducted at the Kandy City Center on 15th of November 2014. Over 1500 people participated in this programme which consisted of an exhibition, demonstrations of space models, special events for kids.

The Workshop and the Inter school competitions; "Space Technology,in a nutshell", "Space Conuueror" & "Life in Space" of the programme "Space Technology for the benefit of human beings",organized by the Institute of Fundamental Studies in Collaboration with the Foundation of Astronomy & Space Exploration (FASE) to celebrate "World Science Week 2014" was successfully held on 11th November 2014 at the IFS premises.

Vidunena Hawula Science Message Service (OSCEM) won a National award at the e-Swabhimani National Best E-content Award 2014, under the category of E-learning and Education on 5th November 2014.

The e-Swabhimani is an initiative of the Information Communication technology agency of Sri Lanka aimed at recognizing excellence in digital content creation. The e-Swabhimani Award process is being conducted along the lines of the World Summit Award and has input from the Digital Empowerment Foundation of India as the Knowledge Partner to ensure that the jury process conforms to international standards.

Scholarly achievement by Dr. Meththika Vithanage

Dr. Meththika Vithanage listed as the top 3rd author in Scopus on biochar publications in 2014. Altogether 7 publications. Also one of her papers has been listed in the top 20 list of journal articles in BIOMED Library domain.
