Project Description

The objective of this project is to identify functional food which are able to address the health and wellness issues in Sri Lanka as well as from a global perspective. A special emphasis is placed on recognizing food products which are able to reduce the glycemic index (GI) and glycemic load (GL). Research work is being conducted on plant-based functional food products and identifying bioactive ingredients which are capable of disease prevention.

  • Dr. Viduranga Waisundara was recognized for her outstanding contribution in reviewing by the Life Sciences journal, Elsevier B.V., Amsterdam, Netherlands
  • Dr. Viduranga Waisundara is an invited speaker for the 2nd International Conference of Traditional and Complementary Medicine on Health 2015 (ICTCMH 2015) from 24 – 27 October 2015 in Taipei, Taiwan
  • Miss Mindani Watawana received the ACN Travel Award to attend the 12th Asian Congress of Nutrition 2015 from 14 – 18 May 2015 in Yokohama, Japan
  • Dr. Viduranga Waisundara received the Developing Country Sponsorship Award to attend the 17th International Union of Food Science & Technology (IUFoST) World Congress in Montreal, Canada from 17 – 21 August 2014
  • Dr. Viduranga Waisundara was invited to the Uva Wellassa University Research Symposium from 12-13 December 2013 as a judge of the Animal Science Technical Session
  • Dr. Viduranga Waisundara participated in the New Zealand Institute of Food Science and Technology Annual conference as an invited speaker, session chair and judge of the student research symposium from 2-4 July 2013 in Hastings, New Zealand
  • Dr. Viduranga Waisundara was appointed by the International Union of Food Science and Technology as the Global Harmonization Initiative Ambassador for Sri Lanka from April 2013 onwards
